The Carrousel
Another summer evening in Edmonton, Festival City. There are dozens of festivals celebrating music, art, theatre, and ethnic groups every year, both summer and winter. Summers are particularly festive, with different events every week, many overlapping. This is The Carrousel, an instillation at The Works Art and Design Festival. It was created by a trio of Quebec artists called BGL, and it is made from recycled fences and shopping carts. And it's human powered!

Rarities
Sunshine and real summer heat in San Francisco, coupled with me having some free time on a weekday afternoon. It's not often that I see anyone but hardcore surfers in this water. I love the sound of kids squealing as the tide rolls in. Ocean beach is really beautiful.

Sunset Park, Brooklyn
First day after school let out, Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

How much do I love you for sending me 60 seconds of Brooklyn? A lot, my friend. A whole lot.

Hanging with Jean at Yerba Buena Gardens
Just shy of 60 seconds of my little friend and birthday biddy, Jean. We spent a part of the afternoon hanging out together at Yerba Buena Gardens, blowing bubbles and exploring the fountains, while her mom attended an important meeting. There may or may not have been some dipping of bare feet in the fountain.

Cliff House Putt Putt
Picture it: Cliff House restaurant in SF. A lovely meal. Sweeping views of the rugged, SF coastline. Dense fog. Cold rain falling....And then a dag with a cowboy hat and a golf club and orange golf ball decides that the cold, wet, concrete patio is the perfect place to get in some putting practice.

Sycamore Mineral Springs Labyrinth
After a week in the Bay Area, Kristine headed home to L.A., making a few stops on the way. This was one of them - the spot where she and Edward were married 13+ years ago. In true kid fashion, Ophelia and Zabel decided that a contemplative maze made for a competitive challenge.

Cloud Chamber
The tracks of sub-atomic particles are captured as they leave condensation trails in a cloud chamber. The "rain" is condensing alcohol, and the particle source is a small button of americium-241. Most of the trails are probably alpha particles, others are cosmic rays and stray particles from background radiation.

Sutro Baths
Went with Kristine and the kids to Sutro Baths. After a downright hot day in Muir Woods, the SF coast was freezing, and the swells were pretty big. Humbling and hypnotic.

The Visitors
My apartment was invaded by Artinians. I've been informed that I could do a much better job in terms of supplying 7 year olds with crafting supplies for spontaneous projects. I TRIED!

GGP
I hate MUNI, but my morning commute IS about the most scenic commute anyone in SF can have. My first bus takes me past Lake Merced, which is really pretty, and I also see a bit of the sea. My second bus cuts through Golden Gate Park, which is pretty cool. Here's a bit of GGP on a particularly sunny morning.

Drawing Dragons
I spent a week with my family. Nic is my youngest nephew. He's a really great little person. He and I are excellent bunkmates. We spent a lot of time drawing pictures of dragons.

One minute of Pride
The Pride flags are out in full force in SF. I find SF Pride to be kind of lame and dopey, if you really want to know the truth. I don't take part in any of the festivities, which are mostly about promoting gay-friendly brand names. I do love a flag blowing in the wind, though.

My Secret Spot
I
LOVE this secret spot...every summer, on my way south, I'd stop here
with my dogs for a quick dip & a cool off. Now that they've all
gone to heaven, it's just not the same. I may have to show another
friend someday...

Songs in the Trees
When I'm walking in the forest, I watch how the light filters through the trees while the birds sing.

Rite of Passage
During my visit, I taught Nicolas how to make and throw a paper airplane. We picked up a book of paper with cool printed patterns. His mom may end up hating me, because he's going to want to keep all 100 paper planes. Ah, well. That's why I get to be the aunt, and leave when it turns into work.
