Chewy Chunks

Nicolas and I played an online math game. Our avatar was named Chewy Chunks.

Burning Gasoline

A hot rod show and parade comes to downtown. I'm no longer into fast cars, but it's sure a spectacle to see people who do.

Getting Home

Nice to get home after a marathon of grant-writing. And friendly skater boys are ok, in my book.

Haunted Ducks at Hollywood Forever

Aggressive little quacking freaks. So much for being somber and respectful at a place of eternal rest.

Why are the ducks attacking Ellen Degeneres?

beach bus

When I take this route home - which is even longer than the usual route - I get to ride on Great Highway for a stretch, right on the beach, really.  The dozens of Porta-Potties are left over from bay to Breakers.  I love the ocean.

Brett Sonnenschein

This guy was playing the Batman theme when I got off the bus, then he segued into The Odd Couple, and I thought it would be wrong not to get a clip. Afterwards, when I put a couple of bucks in his cup, he asked why I'd filmed. I told him I knew a guy who was a real Odd Couple enthusiast. He said, "That guy must be good people." Then he told me his name was Rodney Byrd, "Spelled like the Admiral, not the Celtic."

Meetup

Los Angeles and a handful of Facebook friends welcome Amber Sexton. Escargot may or may not have been on the menu.  Is breastfeeding in public ok even when it's not your child?

Hula Hooping

I love the way she just walks away. It's so rock and roll.

Balloon Dance

Someone put up a bunch of balloons as a marker for an event. It was a windy day, and their dance was a nice distraction, as I waited for the bus, which seems to be what I spend half of my life doing. Didn't catch it on film, but a pit bull came by and was terrified of the dancing balloons. Wuss.

Cheap Stress Relief

Today was exhausting and stressful, for a whole host of reasons. Thank God for my red Duncan Imperial. It's a sleeper.

Zen Garden

I love my dentist. His office is such a pleasure to visit. They serve espresso, and let me watch Netflix on a giant ceiling screen while my teeth are being cleaned. Nicest, though, is that the waiting room looks out on, and opens up to, this lovely little oasis in the middle of the city, complete with water feature and koi pond. Perfect for contemplation before a root canal.

Seven Minutes

To my surprise, just blocks from my home, they are filming a movie today--"Seven Minutes", a bank heist movie starring Kris Kristopherson. Apparently, they are using our courthouse as a bank. Here are a few brief glimpses after a day's filming--I came too late to catch the action.

Spring Morning

Yay! We're back to Spring-like weather in SF. Still a bit chilly, but who cares? The sun was shining, this morning, and the birds were singing. It was a great way to start the day.

Oh Busts A Move

After-school roller skating. My phone rang and cut short this 60 second clip. Blame Lana.

Caw

I love crows. Always have. And I love this little nursery rhyme about them:

One is for bad news, two is for mirth.
Three is a wedding, four for a birth.
Five is for riches, six is a thief.
Seven a journey, eight is for grief.
Nine is a secret, ten is for sorrow, Eleven is love and twelve is joy on the morrow.

A Girl and Her Cat

Not quite 60 seconds, but that's ok, because it's Zah and Jasper.
- Kristine Phoenix Artinian

Just looking at this sets off my allergies. But even I think it's cute, and I hate cats.

The Glow of Uranium

The eerie green fluorescence of uranium, caused by the uranyl ion added to this glass "salt dip", from the 1940s. It takes very little uranium to impart this green fluorescence, although this piece is more radioactive than most glass--but still safe to handle. Still, I wouldn't use it for food.

Guitar Solo

My neighbor playing his guitar. I think he saw me filming and strode over for a better camera angle.

Cow Catcher

I've probably messed my daughter up for life by telling her that was a cow catcher.
- Kristine Phoenix Artinian

This reminds me of Peanuts, when Lucy gives Linus all that wrong information about nature. Fir trees produce animal fur, to be made into coats, except in winter, when they produce wool.

Short Hum

April was a weird of month of highs and lows for me. Thoroughly exhausting. It all sort of came to a head for me earlier today, when I realized just how wiped out I am, and how badly in need of a vacation I am. I was having an especially good time beating myself up over a careless mistake I made out of exhaustion/extended periods of sleeplessness, when this hummingbird appeared. It really made my day. Not quite 60 seconds.

Water Dance

I was mesmerized by this little trig and bit of lichen. It's almost like a dance, so I set it to music by Erik Satie.

Ferry

Left Sausalito before the fog caught up with me and froze my ass. Lovely day it was. I wish I could travel everywhere by ferry.

Goddard Gardens

It hit me suddenly that this is the end of my commute, and that's one reason I'm a damn lucky person.

This makes my heart ache with a kind of homesickness for you, G, and for sweet, sweet youth.

My Other Office

Another summery day in SF. I don't get to say that very often. It was my "work from home" day, so I took some work with me to Ocean Beach. The water wasn't even that cold. I NEVER get to say that.

Working Under The Sun

Such a gorgeous day, today. I took some work to Yerba Buena Gardens, and soaked up the rays during my lunch break. Bliss.
